Last Wednesday, the students and staff of Centennial High School expressed their gratitude to Officer Dave Fernandez, who will retire next month after 14 years of service as Centennial's first and only School Resource Officer. A winner of the National School Resource Officer of the Year Award, Officer Dave has been the consummate model of honor, integrity and excellence during his time at CeHS. Students and staff cheered him on as he, his wife Donna, and their family marched through the hallways with Band, Spiritline, and Student Council. Student Council and the Peoria Police Department have teamed up to support an annual scholarship in his honor. Beginning this year, a graduating senior will each year be awarded the Officer Dave Fernandez Servant Leadership Scholarship! Officer Dave, thank you for your service and leadership, and congratulations on your retirement!

Baseball Splits Two Playoff Games - Plays Monday for a Chance at Wednesday and Thursday

Congratulations to Coach Williams for clinching his 100th win as Centennial's coach last Monday, when the Coyotes shut out Nogales 2-0 and advanced to the double-elimination state quarterfinals. Centennial and Canyon del Oro played a nail biter and the Coyotes came up just short in a 6-4 loss last Thursday. The Coyotes take the field at Tempe Diablo Stadium again this week, with a Monday rematch versus Nogales. If they win, they'll earn a rematch with Canyon del Oro on Wednesday at Mesa's Hohokam Stadium. Click here to find their schedule and links to buy tickets. Good luck!

Around Campus

Madame Rappold’s French IV students have spent the last few weeks developing Passion Projects. Each student researched a topic of special interest to them. They taught their classmates the French vocabulary associated with that topic as well as its history and key components. All teaching and presentations were carried out in French. Finally, the topics were brought to life with hands-on activities conducted all while speaking French. Some examples were sports like tennis, gymnastics, track, and soccer, arts and crafts like crochet, painting, and making slime, and fields such as medicine, baking, and music production. The students did an amazing job using the language and teaching one another about some fun topics!

    students with cakes they decorated

Our Baking & Pastry Students were excited to wrap up their semester with a Cake Wars competition!  They formed 2-person groups and planned and executed cakes and icing all from scratch.  They carefully chose their own unique themes and flavors and did an amazing job executing their final cakes to present!  Thank you to everyone who came to our event and voted for their favorites!

Congratulations to Mrs. Cota and all the Physics students who created cardboard boats for the annual regatta held in the Centennial Pool! Students learned about how mass, shape, and materials impact buoyancy. In the first race, Ms. Beck took first place! Thanks to all the teachers who participated!
